NEW PUBLICATIONS!!

Thanks to two of our CTGS members, we are pleased to announce the publication of one CD and two new books.

CTGS member Larry McNear has prepared a CD of Cemetery Photographs to Accompany "Your Guide to the Cemeteries of Belmont County." The CD is easy to use and includes a color photograph of each of the cemeteries we researched for our book. When our members prepared a worksheet on a cemetery, they also took a photograph of it. Some of the cemeteries are in remote areas or on private property, and it is unlikely that viewers will ever visit them. The CD allows you to see what the cemetery looks like and its condition. Even if you do not own the book, you will enjoy viewing the photographs. Over 230 photographs - $6.00.

CTGS member C. Richard "Mike" Michael has compiled two books which he has generously donated to CTGS for us to sell.

Mike searched through available records of the Federal Census Mortality Schedules from 1850 through 1880. All years for all areas were not available, but what was available has been compiled into Southeastern Ohio Mortality Schedules. It covers eight counties: Belmont, Guernsey, Harrison, Jefferson, Monroe, Morgan, Noble and Washington. If your ancestor died in the twelve months preceding the taking of the census, you may be able to find him or her in this book. Information varies but may include not only Name, Sex, Age, Color and Marital Status, but also Place of Birth, Month in Which Death Occurred, Profession, Occupation or Trade, Disease or Cause of Death, and Parents' Birthplace! Mike even included a "Glossary of Old Disease Names" and county maps outlining township locations. 114 pages - $16.00.

Mike also compiled a valuable work titled Belmont County in World War I to honor over 4,200 Belmont County men and women who served in that war. It is an alphabetical compilation of veteran information including: Name, Serial Number, Race, Birth Place, Birth Date, Enlistment Location, Enlistment Division, Enlistment Date, and Assigns Comments. He has also included related "Letters and Articles," a "Wounded in Action" section and a "Died While in Service" section. 367 pages - $31.00.

Also remember that the Ebenezer Zane Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) is allowing CTGS to sell Revolutionary War Patriots, Volume 4. Several SAR members are also CTGS members and we value their contributions.

OUR THANKS TO LARRY, MIKE AND THE SAR FELLOWS FOR THEIR SUPPORT.

Researched & Prepared by CTGS Members
For several years Cumberland Trail Genealogical Society has been working on a Cemetery Documentation Project to locate and document cemeteries throughout Belmont County. This book is the culmination of that project. This guide documents over 230 cemeteries ranging from large cemeteries with thousands of burials to one lone tombstone found in the woods. The book also includes Cemetery Reference Numbers with Township Maps to aid in locating the cemeteries. The guide concludes with a Missing Cemeteries section for those interested in taking up the search or providing additional information. Please note: This book does not include tombstone transcriptions, but it does list known sources for transcriptions. Size: 7” x 8½”, 289 pages, comb-bound, cemeteries indexed.
